Motique is a combination of modern and antique styles, in decorating. This style is one of my favorites to try to pull off, and while it is near the top on my decorating list, it by no means precludes my ability to execute other decorating styles. Actually, I prefer to mix things up a bit anyway.
Here are some tips about Motique that I pulled from The Spruce, online:
In the article's words "Mixing modern items with a antiques is a great way to achieve these decorating goals because the approach keeps a room fresh, adds contrast and depth, and ultimately creates balance." (The decorating goals referenced are: balance and proportion as they apply to color, shape, texture & style). "You don't want an unplanned mishmash of styles, but rather to have an idea of what you're trying to achieve. For example, try:
1. Having modern or contemporary decoration with antique accessories.
2. Having antique decoration with modern or contemporary accessories
3. Having paired or grouped items built around a particular contemporary or antique showcase item.
4. Having modern and antique decoration selected around a theme, such as "simplicity", "shabby chic", "shades of blue", etc."
The Spruce article provide specific examples of how to use furniture and accessories to accomplish a well-balanced and proportioned (and interesting) decorated house. As always, if you have items that you absolutely love, use them!
