5/9/2020 1 Comment It's Been a WhileHello All!
It's been a while since we've been on here. We hope you all are doing well. This will be just a quick update. My father passed away last November, then came the holidays, then coronavirus, so we haven't been very active at the storefront. We had planned on hosting another Open House for Spring and Summer goodies, but it looks like that is not going to happen now, so we are focusing on Autumn, Winter and Christmas! Our goal is to have another smashing Open House in the Fall sometime, and to also be open over various weekend during the fall and winter months. We do still have spring and summer items available, and can always create a custom "something" just for you! In fact, I just completed some beautiful Spring/Summer wreaths for a couple of clients, and we still have some handmade soaps available. There are not many soaps left, so contact us if you are interested. We have handmade lip balms as well, in natural and peppermint, that come in tubes and tins. I am excited about this year's Autumn/Winter Open House, as we have plans to rearrange the storefront in order to present more beautiful displays for you to enjoy (and to purchase!!) As always, we are available by appointment, so feel free to contact us. Yes, we are still working on obtaining more furniture pieces to paint so that you can use a unique piece of painted furniture to enhance your space! God Bless and take care! 10/15/2019 1 Comment Success and ProgressGood evening, all! Just wanted to touch base with you. The Open House was a success! We had a steady stream of visitors coming in, most of whom enjoyed a hot dog from the grill (thank you, dear Husband!). It was fun talking to everyone, and we look forward to seeing you all again soon. If you were one of the visitors, you very well may know that our goal is to be open the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving. We will offer custom Fall (grab some for next year or as a gift!) and Christmas decor, handmade soaps, lip balms and some scented wax tarts, among other decor items! I would also like to be open a few Saturdays between now and Christmas, but for now, I am not sure which Saturdays. Feel free to drive by the store. If we are open, you'll see the Open banners hanging from the awning. And if we are not open, please feel free to message me using the contact form on this website and we can make arrangements to meet at the store. And....we are happy to do custom work for your Holiday season! Give us a shout.
Ahhh....this is going to be a busy week. We just returned from a decorating consultation so we'll be working hard to help our client meet her goals. I am excited about the potential results. This year, we probably will not have a booth at the Holiday Extravaganza, which will be held on Saturday, November 16th at the Williamson County Pavilion in Marion, IL, but be sure to check the HE out this year! Carolyn keeps growing this event, and will have a record number of vendors there to please just about everyone! Finally, we are toying with the idea of hosting a Spring Open House, and already have ideas for that! We hope to have a bridal-featured area, along with some light, happy spring-decor areas to bring as much warmth to your home as the warm spring sun brings to your heart. Please note, the store is not open Monday-Friday during regular business hours as we also have full-time jobs, but we will be happy to accommodate your decorating requests and custom work as it works for us all. Thank you for your understanding. 9/26/2019 1 Comment September 26th, 2019Go to Gallery Page and scroll down to the bottom to take a sneak peek at items available for purchase!
8/22/2019 1 Comment August 22nd, 2019Good evening, all! Tonight I would like to talk about 2 different topics. The first topic is the progress on the Open House preparations, and the second topic is a fun way to entertain.
First of all, the storefront has seen some renovation in the last few weeks! Walls have been removed, flooring has been tweaked, walls have been painted, some display furniture has been set up, and of course some arrangements have either been displayed or created to later be placed when the renovation is finished. We still have a lot of work to do, and September is quickly approaching! I am excited about some of the ideas we hope to implement, but the most exciting thing is sharing the storefront with you, perfected or not! Please keep in mind that while we plan to make the storefront as beautiful and enticing as possible, it is still a work-in-process and will continue to be worked on after the Open House. One more thing, we are going to try to be open some Saturdays between the Open House and a few weeks before Christmas, for those of you who just want to come visit us, or for those of you who couldn't make it to the OH, or....for those of you who want more beautiful goodies! I do know that we will not be open the two Saturdays following the OH as we have other obligations, but please email or message us or just drive by to see when we will be open! Now for the second topic...This may seem like a new idea to some, and to others, they may be wondering why this is even being mentioned, as they have entertained this way as a general rule. We love using "nicer" dishes when entertaining friends and family. Yes, we use paper goods at times, but when we can, we like to use our slowly-growing collection of glassware from various antique stores and flea markets. I don't think we have a complete set of any one collection, but it sure is fun to set a table with clear glassware, or all white, or colorful depression or carnival glass, or even porcelain and china sets! We try to get glassware that can be placed in the dishwasher, but it really isn't that much of a chore to wash those that probably should not go in the dishwasher....after all....we wash most of the cooking pots & pans by hand. Using different glassware mixed with different napkins can give several different looks. For instance, you could use your clear glass dishes with a white tablecloth and gold or silver chargers, candlesticks, and neutral napkins for a clean, timeless look. You could also use the same clear dishes with a colorful tablecloth or place mats, colored water goblets and fun napkin rings! Match....or mix it up! Dishes can be the inspiration for your entire table theme using napkins, chargers, place mats, table cloths, table runners, silverware/flatware, drink glasses, candles and arrangements to change it up every time! Not everything has to come from a matched set, either. How fun would it be to use all pink depression-glass dinner plates, for example, but each plate is a different pattern? Heck, you can even mix the patterns and colors of the plates, so long as there is a cohesiveness to the entire tablescape. Our regular dishes don't match, but are different colors and patterns of stoneware, and we love using them all together! Each plate would go with any other plate in our collection. Our bread plates and bowls are the same way. Thing is, there are so many beautiful dishes out there....just waiting to be used again....dishes that were once popular....dishes that have fallen out of favor, but in my opinion, not style! Most of the glassware that I see in antique stores and flea markets are simple, elegant and beautiful. Secret....one of my favorite places to shop/look at glassware is in an antique mall in Verona, VA. They claim to be the largest antique mall in the US (I think this is based on square footage, but don't quote me). I try to go there every time I visit my sister, who lives in the area. There is one whole section, kind of in the middle, that has tons of beautiful glassware. Yes, some patterns and colors of depression glass and of carnival glass can be expensive, based on rarity, but man...you sure can find some awesome pieces at way less than what you might pay for a wedding china set or for some of the more well-known, colorful brands of stoneware. Because of this, you might even feel more free to use the second-hand glassware just because of the relative inexpensiveness of the pieces! Set down your cellphone, turn off the TV....eat a meal served on a beautifully-set table with those you love. I just get so excited when I see glassware sets and wish I could have them all and use them, but that would be silly! Grab your favorite form of coffee, a friend or two and take a trip to an antique store or flea market. Or, go by yourself! Keep an eye out for some glassware that you could use in your own home! Give a set as a gift...even a few pieces. Let me know if you've found your glassware treasure! I sure would like to hear about it! Motique is a combination of modern and antique styles, in decorating. This style is one of my favorites to try to pull off, and while it is near the top on my decorating list, it by no means precludes my ability to execute other decorating styles. Actually, I prefer to mix things up a bit anyway.
Here are some tips about Motique that I pulled from The Spruce, online: In the article's words "Mixing modern items with a antiques is a great way to achieve these decorating goals because the approach keeps a room fresh, adds contrast and depth, and ultimately creates balance." (The decorating goals referenced are: balance and proportion as they apply to color, shape, texture & style). "You don't want an unplanned mishmash of styles, but rather to have an idea of what you're trying to achieve. For example, try: 1. Having modern or contemporary decoration with antique accessories. 2. Having antique decoration with modern or contemporary accessories 3. Having paired or grouped items built around a particular contemporary or antique showcase item. 4. Having modern and antique decoration selected around a theme, such as "simplicity", "shabby chic", "shades of blue", etc." The Spruce article provide specific examples of how to use furniture and accessories to accomplish a well-balanced and proportioned (and interesting) decorated house. As always, if you have items that you absolutely love, use them! 6/22/2019 0 Comments Open House, con'dSo, for the continuation of the last post from today....we are planning on hosting an Open House on Saturday, September 28th from 10:00am through 5:00pm. Guests will be able to come into the storefront to see the floral arrangements, home accessories and furniture firsthand! Cash-and-carry items available for immediate "off-line" purchase will be in the store, along with some sale items, and as always, our custom floral arrangement services and our 1R3C services will be available. We are planning on showcasing fall and Christmas/winter arrangements, so grab something for your home or as a gift! We hope to offer a hot punch and/or a cold beverage along with a hot dog or bratwurst from the grill....free of charge. We are very excited about this opportunity to get to know people and to visit with them!
We are still available by appointment, so be sure to contact us in the meantime! There is a contact page on this website, as well as our email: [email protected]. We look forward to seeing you at 401 Public Square, Jonesboro, IL on Saturday, September 28th! 6/22/2019 0 Comments Storefront and Open HouseWe have had a lot of rain in our area. In fact, it is raining as I type this. Today I spent a little time up at the storefront moving things around for a bit of demo and remodeling that will be undertaken in the next few weeks. In case you were wondering (and I am not sure why I failed to say this in the past), the storefront is located in Jonesboro, IL, on the square. The address is 401 Public Square. The storefront is located on the southwest quadrant of the traffic circle, and is in line with the buildings that face north. The storefront is the only one with an awning, that has black and white trim, with a red metal awning roof. There are several different floral arrangements ready for sale. We have two bridal bouquets, one with bright, vibrant colors, and the other a more-traditional/softer cascading bouquet. We also have some secured and some loose arrangements in various colors and sizes for sale.
In addition, there are several clear glass lamps for sale, some glassware and candlesticks. We just added another lovely chest of drawers to the growing furniture collection. I may leave the chest of drawers as is, or I may paint it later. The hardware is smart, so that will probably be left on the piece. We also have a soft green dresser, a white wall table with fun gold pulls, and a chair-in-waiting. The chair is available for sale as is now, but as with the chest of drawers, I may decide to update the exposed wood part! One Room, Three Choices. This is the name of a new venture that my decorating partner and friend, Donna, and I are undergoing. The idea of this endeavor is to help those homeowners out there who are struggling with decorating one room in their house and would like assistance to transform their not-so-pleasing area into an area that they truly love to look at and to be in. How this works is that a client would contact us and we would arrange a consultation to understand what their problems are and what their vision is for one room in their house. We would then take the information from the consultation and come up with no more than three solutions for various elements of decorating. We feel that no more than three choices will prevent the client from feeling overwhelmed with all the seemingly endless choices that are out there, and that three choices would still allow the client to have a say in how they would want to enhance their one problem room. We are available for in-person consultations in the southern Illinois and surrounding areas, and are testing remote services as well. In fact, we are currently assisting one client in another state with her decorating conundrums. Please use the contact form on this website to schedule a consultation today!
Another service we are offering is that of limited staging help. When it's time to sell your house and you want to post the best-possible pictures on your realtor's website, or if you are just selling on your own, we can offer suggestions on how to stage your house in order to get the best photos to maximize potential buyer interest. This service is limited in that we can consult with you about making aesthetic changes that the homeowner then carries out on his/her own. 5/4/2019 1 Comment Tea Parties & a New VentureHello again! This spring has been busy for us. Has it been that way for you? I just wanted to share some fun updates with you that may inspire you to invest in those you care about. A few Saturdays ago, I hosted a Ladies Tea Party at our church. It was just a time for us all to have fun, relax, feel pampered, to dress up (only if desired), and to play a few games and win prizes! I wanted to share with you that while planning a tea party can be very detailed and more involved, or simple and casual, that the dishes don't have to match. Linens don't have to match. Fresh-flower containers don't have to match. I had been collecting different teacups and saucers over time, as well as fabric napkins. I also used different teapots, some being ceramic pots and some being silver pots. For this tea party, I chose to have a self-serve tea, where I offered three different kinds of teas in teabag form. Sugar and cream were on the table, as well as lemon slices and most importantly, hot water in the teapots. To heat the water efficiently, my friend had the idea to use percolators to heat the water and to make dispensing the water into the pots easy. I was concerned about using percolators that had perked coffee in them previously, as I didn't want the water tainted with a coffee flavor. Thankfully, I had access to two different percolators that had been used for other beverages besides coffee, that would not lend an odd taste to the water. I had purchased fresh flowers at a big-box store, which were then added to various containers along the tables (thank you, Donna!). I used a separate table for the treats that was also self serve. The guests took a tea-trivia quiz, played Bingo, and played the Purse Game. We had prizes for the winners of each. We also decided to invite little girls, and had smaller teacups/saucers just for them, as well as gift bags. So, whether you are thinking about entertaining a larger group of ladies, or having a smaller, more intimate gathering, take some time to plan to pamper the special women in your life!
